Earlobe Repair
Earlobe repair is a cosmetic procedure that is commonly performed to repair a split or stretched earlobe. This procedure reattaches stretched or torn earlobes back to the main part of the ear, thus closing any holes or stretched skin.
The procedure is safe and effective with minimal risk of complications. However, as with any procedure, there are possible risks/complications such as bleeding, infection, poor healing, scaring, asymmetry, notching along the earlobe or change in ear shape.
The procedure starts with administering a local anesthetic, so your earlobe will be numb, but you’ll still be awake. The damaged tissue is removed, and the remaining healthy tissue is repositioned and sutured together.
After the procedure is complete the ear will be partially covered with a dressing. Showering and exercise are allowed after 24 hours. Within 7-10 days the sutures are removed.
It is common to experience some mild pain and swelling which Tylenol can be taken.
For both ears to be repaired, we space the procedure out to minimize discomfort. Once the first ear is done it can be done as soon as one week after the first, depending on your comfort level.
This procedure will close your current piercing. You can re-pierce your ears as soon as 8 weeks post- procedure.
We highly recommend going to a professional piercing artist over the mall establishments. Piercing artists have superior knowledge, skill and dedication to cleanliness. Going to a professional will also cause much less trauma to the earlobe than using a piercing gun.
We recommend: Black Maple in Windham, Brass & Briar Studios or Almost Famous in Portland for re-piercing your ears.
