Microblading

Microblading is a semi-permanent method of tattooing to enhance brows that is more natural looking than a traditional tattoo. It creates a natural appearance, imitating real hair strokes that reconstruct, define, fill gaps and correct brow shapes that can result from over plucking. The result will imitate natural looking hairs and blend with existing brows creating a 3D effect.

How is microblading done?

Microblading is an extremely meticulous process and a session can take about 2 hours to complete. The first hour is spent measuring and ‘mapping’ with a pen to achieve the symmetry and shape of the brows.

Once the shape is agreed upon by you and your provider, any excess hair outside the drawn in brow are tweezed, and then the first pass of ‘strokes’ will be done.  The color mask is then applied for 5 minutes. After the color mask is removed topical numbing cream will be applied to help with any discomfort. More strokes are then added using 2 different tools to add volume and fill in gaps. Lastly, a color mask is applied.

For optimal results we follow the clients skin type, adjusting the pressure and technique accordingly. We use a dual blade method (called a 6D method) where you get thin strokes and thicker strokes that allow for the brows to look hyper realistic and dimensional.

Before leaving the office you will be given after care instructions and products for your at home care.

What are the results?

When the treatment is complete your brows will appear 15% larger and 30-40% darker than the final healed results.

Final results after the first session can be seen just after 3 weeks. A second session or the “touch-up” is recommended between 6 & 8 weeks after the first session to fix any small imperfections as well as make the brows darker or a but thicker if desired.

How are the brows maintained?

To maintain your results it is recommended to “refresh” every year. Unlike traditional tattoo ink, these pigments fade over time as they are not deposited as deeply in the dermis. Depending on your skin type, results can last between 6 months and 2 years. The sun and any form of UV rays are the biggest ‘enemies’ of microblading as it will cause the pigment to fade. It is highly recommended to always use a sunscreen with SPF 50 as well as avoid using any products containing skin lightening ingredients such as hydroquinone or benzoyl peroxide.

Are you a good candidate for Microblading?

Skin Complications- When your skin is constantly flaking, itching, or aggravated, it is most likely in a state of unrest and shedding. When the skin is prone to these problems you are not a good candidate for microblading because you will not hold the pigment as well.

Chronic Conditions- The same goes for chronic conditions such as Acne, Rosacea, Keratosis Pilaris, Psoriasis and Eczema. People with these conditions naturally bleed more, which means your skin will not retain pigment as well. Additionally, an excess of oil in the skin will cause the tattooed hair strokes to blur and appear bolder instead of the natural feathered look most people prefer.

Skin Type- For people who have Fitzpatrick skin type 1, your skin is typically hypersensitive and will not tolerate microblading as well. The same applies for someone with very thin skin (older people)- you will bleed easier and not retain pigment as well.

Tan/Sunburn- Plan your sun exposure and vacations around your microblading appointment!!  Since the sun causes damage and your skin to more sensitive, it is best to wait until your skin has resumed normal color before booking your microblading treatment.

Medications- Certain medications can alter the skin’s integrity and cause hypersensitivity.  For people who have used Accutane/Retin A within the past year, need to wait 6-8 months before moving forward with their microblading treatment. Individuals who use Retinol or Vitamin A, should discontinue these products 3-6 months prior to treatment.

Latisse eyelash and eyebrow growth serum or any other growth serum increase blood flow to the area resulting in more growth.  These serums also cause hypersensitivity and the skin to bleed more.  For best results, be mindful to stop these medication 3-6 months prior to microblading.

Microblading causes mild injury to the skin, therefore, needs time to heal!  Make sure to give your skin a full 2 weeks to heal before planning to go on a hot vacation involving sweating, sun exposure, and swimming.
